Crumbs of the Mind
In November 2003, the theme of Crumbs of the Mind
expanded from "Poetry and Prose of the Intellectually Gifted"
to "Creative Works of the Intellectually Gifted."
"Crumbs" will be undergoing a significant
expansion and revision and will include a wide range of creative
works, including:
- book excerpts
- drawing
- digital graphic art
- poetry
- haiku
- prose and short stories
- photography (including digital)
- painting
- mixed media artwork
- other creative works
Gibran Kahlil Gibran said something to the effect
that our words are but crumbs that fall down from the feast of the
mind. I would tend to agree with this.
Whether or not someone is a poet or a writer "by
definition" is somewhat of a moot point. What I believe is
important is that the written word is yet another art form--one
through which we can express our thoughts, our feelings, our desires.
Just as an artist paints in colors on canvas, so a poet or riter
paints in words on paper.
If a writer or poet, however amateur, can effect an
understanding, or paint a picture, or evoke an emotion, then they
have made an impression on the world as surely as an artist whose
painting hangs in a museum or a composer who creates a symphony.
Creative Works of the Intellectually Gifted
I believe there is much to be gained by the sharing
of the thoughts expressed by those individuals with an intellectual
gift. This gift is often accompanied by gifts of profound creativity
and insight as well.
While the purpose of this site is not to pass judgement
as to whether or not any particular piece of work possesses a certain
merit, it will serve as a "window" of sorts into the minds
and hearts of the gifted and severely gifted. In addition, it will
serve as a means for gifted individuals to share their thoughts
and perspectives with others--perhaps to achieve a greater understanding
or to share a vision or difficulty inherent to the gifted mind...
perhaps for some other reason.
Whatever the outcome, it is my hope that it will help
create an understanding where there once was a void.
