There is a snake trapped at the bottom of a pit
that is twenty meters deep.
The only way out that he can find is a rope that
is hanging down and just reaches the bottom of
the pit. The snake begins to wrap himself around
the rope and climb upward toward freedom. However,
he finds that, though he makes it five meters
up the rope every day, he ends up sliding back
down four meters as soon as he hits the "five-meter
mark" because he is so exhausted from all
his hard work.
Assuming the snake continues like this, gaining
five meters then losing four, each day, how many
days will it take for the snake to reach the top
of the pit?
